F1: Alonso Head Games Not Enough
By now I’m certain you’ve read several articles over the last week about Alonso making comments about he and Ferrari battling Newey and not necessarily Vettel.
I understand what he’s trying to say. I actually agree with the Spaniard on this one. I believe Ferrari are losing the battle to Newey more so than Red Bull and/or Vettel. I believe Alonso is flat-out out-driving Vettel and has been all season. I believe Vettel is doing a great job, however, without question, it is Adrian Newey that is the biggest reason Red Bull is leading.
Ferrari have struggled to really find its form since the start of the season. For one reason or another, Alonso has found a way to consistently stay in the points barring two incidents beyond his control.
Be all that as it may, Alonso’s comments may be playing a little head game with Vettel. The implication is that Vettel is not the reason Alonso is not leading the championship, but rather Newey is. I believe the intent of the comment is to say that it doesn’t matter who is driving the car. Vettel however, having notched up his fourth victory in a row and extended his lead with only three races left, doesn’t seem to be bothered by Alonso’s theory.
Alonso remains publicly defiant that he will win this championship. More head games? or serious talk? Does Fernando know something we don’t? Does Ferrari have an ace up their Scarlet Red sleeve?
I’m not certain, but I pretty sure that Vettel, Newey and the boys from Milton-Keynes aren’t listening to a word Alonso is saying. These intentional or non-intentional head games are not going to be enough to stop Vettel from flying away with this championship. It really is Newey that has given the RB8 its Red Bull wings.
