F1 Driver’s Standings After 2013 Australian GP
This is what the race for the Formula One drivers championship looks like after the first race of the season. Kimi took the victory and thus the 25 points that came with it. His two stop strategy proved to be the right decision. His Lotus E21 was gentle enough on the Pirelli tyres to allow them to last long enough to make it possible. Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso raced hard and was able to hold on to second place ahead of reigning champion Vettel. It was a beautiful podium, many smiles and good spirit. Congratulations go out to Kimi and Lotus for a brilliant drive and a seemingly very fast and steady car.
Hats off to Massa who had a great race and also Adrian Sutil who finished ahead of team mate Paul DiResta after returning to the sport after one year. It was a difficult race for Lewis Hamilton who had hoped to be on a two stop strategy but was unable to coax the tyres into lasting a longer stint. Also a difficult race for Jenson Button who is driving an untameable McLaren MP4-28. Rumours surfaced that the team is so disenchanted with the way the car has turned out, that they may consider going back to last season’s car.
