F1: Ecclestone On Spanish Conundrum

01.16.12

Amid the reports that both Valencia and Barcelona GP venues want to re-negotiate contract terms in order to continue hosting F1 events, Bernie Ecclestone comments on a possible solution.

Due to Spain’s economic sensitivity at the moment, Spanish government officials have been trying to find a compromise in order to not breach current contracts and to still maintain Spain’s place on F1’s calendar.  You can read more about this here, https://thef1poet.wordpress.com/2012/01/10/f1the-spanish-inquisition/

Spain has the honour of hosting two grand Prix (Spanish and European), However, this comes at a cost of millions. One of these races is bound to be revoked and given to any number of hopeful nations.

Bernie mentions, “They are talking about the possibility of alternating the race between Valencia and Barcelona…maybe that’s a good idea, maybe we should do it.” when discussing the option of alternating venues.
