F1: Malaysian GP Qualifying Results – Times – Review

by on March 24, 2012

Here are the results to qualifying for the Malaysian Grand Prix.  Conditions remained hot, humid but dry as teams tested the limits of grip with both Pirelli compounds.

In the end, we were gifted with a great session ending with an all McLaren front row AND with the top 8 separated by less than five tenths.  Mercedes engines showing their grunt with the top 3 spots on the grid with Michael Schumacher right behind Button but ahead of Webber.  Kimi will drop down five places due to a gearbox change which means Vettel will line up in 5th.  No one would disturb Hamilton though as he snags Pole by a tight margin.  He has looked good all weekend thus far.

Alonso is the first of the top 10 in ninth that is not running a Mercedes or Renault engine.  Seriously off the pace of the front runners, he will have to drive the wheels off that Ferrari again.  He certainly is earning his pay while Massa must be finding it difficult to stay positive after his Q2 exit.

Heikki will also suffer a five place penalty for overtaking under a safety car in Australia. Also of note, HRT qualified for the race…here’s hoping they finish it.
