Are McLaren Second Guessing Perez Decision?
I recently received an email requesting that I stop trying to open discussions on Twitter based on hypothetical questions. The person failed to share his or her identity sadly. These are precisely the types of discussions I look forward to taking place on this blog.
In lieu of this occurrence, I thought I might ask the strictly hypothetical question as to whether or not McLaren might be second guessing their decision to sign Sauber’s Sergio Perez. The only purpose to this post is to stimulate thought and discussion. I am in no way suggesting that there is any truth or proof to support this hypothetical theory.
I have sources that indicate that there is some truth to the rumor that Sauber boss Monisha Kaltenborn is planning to have a chat with Perez over his recent lack of form. The last four races yielded zero points to Sauber from Perez. It is a crucial point in the season now as Sauber is desperately trying to catch a struggling Mercedes team while staying ahead of a surging Force India in the Constructors race. Every point helps and translates directly into much-needed funding for the team.
On the flip side, this lack of performance may have raised concerns at McLaren, who signed Perez to replace the departing Hamilton. Recently Pete Gill from Sky Sports wrote an article that touched on an interview with McLaren’s Whitmarsh conducted by the Daily Mail before Abu Dhabi. In which, Whitmarsh admitted that the partnership between McLaren and Perez remains a bit of a mystery. Neither party really knows what they are in for. The pressure on Perez to perform will me immense and perhaps more than he is accustomed to.
It is unlikely that there are any regrets from McLaren’s camp on the signing of Perez, despite his recent lack of results. I would suggest that perhaps there are simply some proverbial butterflies floating about as both Perez and McLaren step into unknown territory together.
