F1 Testing Results – Day One Jerez Spain

Below are the unofficial times for Tuesday February 5th, 2013, pre-season tests in Jerez Spain.  McLaren is clearly ahead in these tests on the first day.  Jenson Button fired a warning shot to it’s rivals.  He ran half as many laps as the next closest competitor yet his MP4-28 was over one full second quicker.

Chasing Button, was Mark Webber in his purple RB9 followed closely by Romain Grojean in his Lotus E21.  Felipe Massa might have had a slight look of concern under his helmet as he finished the day with 64 laps and the 6th fastest time of the day.  He was sandwiched between a Toro Rosso and a Sauber, both of which are using Ferrari’s powerplants.

Still, it is only testing and early days.  Testing continues at Jerez tomorrow.  Here are today’s results:

7. Nico Hulkenberg, Sauber, 1:20.699, 79 laps
8. Nico Rosberg, Mercedes, 1:20.846, 14 laps
9. Pastor Maldonado, Williams, 1:20.864, 84 laps * (*last season’s car)
10. Giedo van der Garde, Caterham, 1:21.915, 64 laps
11. Max Chilton, Marussia, 1:24.176, 29 laps
